The Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, and lawmaker representing Akoko Edo Constituency 1, Yekini Idiaye has been impeached.
He was removed this afternoon, Wednesday, 5th August, during plenary.
House of Assembly members immediately elected Roland Asoro as his replacement. Asoro is the House of Assembly member representing Orhionmwon II Constituency.
Idiaye declared his support for Ize-Iyamu on Monday along with 4 other members of the House. They make up 17 lawmakers who insist on staying with the APC and supporting Pastor Osagie Eze-Iyamu.
The Deputy Speaker said that Governor Obaseki had failed to initiate any development project in his constituency despite his intervention efforts. For him, he had no reason to stay on with him.
In his words, “There is no reason for me to defect to another party because there is no single project in my village to show under this present administration.
“I am from Somorika in Akoko Edo Local Government Area and my village is the most backward.”
He therefore distanced himself from backing the incumbent governor in his re-election bid.
It is not yet certain, how many more people would defect with the deputy speaker to the Peoples Democratic Party even as the campaigns continue to heat up.
