A credible source within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed operatives of the agency have arrived the venue of the APC convention on a secret operation.
The source who spoke with The Punch noted that EFCC operatives are watching closely incidents of delegates inducement, vote-buying and other electoral or financial fraud activities that may take place.
The source who spoke on the conditions of anonymity said, “We’re currently at the APC convention ground on a covert operation. We’re monitoring activities, and watching keenly for incidents of delegates inducement, vote-buying, and other electoral or financial fraud activities that might take place”.
In a similar development, human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju has called on the commission to monitor the ongoing presidential primary in Abuja.
He stated that presidential aspirants under the ruling party are planning to pay dollars to delegates for their votes.
He said in a tweet: “Dear @officialEFCC, please go close to Eagle Square. There are reports presidential aspirants of the APC are planning to share dollars to delegates for vote buying.“
Comrade Deji Adeyanju Thank you EFCC for this. The APC election committee should ensure the voting cubicles must be protected to ensure secret ballot. Voters must not be allowed to vote and show who they are voting for. INEC as observers should shine their eyes.
The anti-graft agency is said to have also visited the convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in May on a similar mission.
