Chidinma Ojukwu, the 21-year old UNILAG student who killed billionnaire Ataga Usifo, in her confession to the Police, said they both “smoked, took roofies and drank a lot of alcohol.”
What are Roofies ?
The medical name for roofies is Rophynol (flunitrazepam) but it is known on the streets and among addicts as roofies.
It is curiously described as a recreation drug and is known in US as Mexican Valium, la roche, R2, rope, date-rape-drug and forget-me pill.
It is not an off-the-counter medication and in developed countries, only dispensed on doctor’s prescription. It is also used as an anaesthesia for surgery.
Devious lovers drop it in unsuspecting partners’ beverage, to knock the victim out so they can rape him/her. Other criminals do same to physically harm their victims.
It is described as a date-rape-drug as it causes anyone who invests it to feel forgetful, confused, weak, sleepy and unable to move his/her body.
People begin to feel the effects roofies within 20-30 minutes and it can last for up to 8 hours. Even when a victim comes to, he/she is unable to recall anything that happened.
For people who don’t get knocked out, they become paranoid and may run amok. This may have been the case for Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu and her Sugar-Daddy, Ataga.
Their case was made worse with the addition of cigarette/weed which she said they smoked along a lot of alcohol. The lovers were obviously “roofied and very high.”
From Chidinma Ojukwu’s narrative, the effect of the “cocktail” of substances that the 21-year-old undergraduate and her 50-year-old lover ingested, obviously had two extremely opposite effects on them.
While Ataga got paranoid and later became weak and collapsed, a condition worsened by the apparent loss of blood from his stab injuries, Chidinma ran amok.
