The London Metropolitan Police has stated its position on an organ trafficking case after they were contacted for further information concerning the arrest of Ike Ekweremadu and wife Beatrice.
Earlier on Thursday, news broke that a woman and a man with the same names and ages as Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice were apprehended on grounds of conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ Harvesting.
The Met police stated that “an investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.”
They added that pieces of biographical data provided matched the publicly available personal data of Mr Ekweremadu and his wife.
However, Premium Times reports that when it reached out to London Met for more information, they explained that they would not divulge information because the investigation was ongoing.
“As criminal proceedings are now underway we will not be providing further details,” Met said.
While the police did not state the gender of the child, they said “A child has been safeguarded and we are working closely with partners on continued support.”
