Electricity Workers have suspended the nationwide strike they embarked upon on Wednesday.
After a 4-hour long conciliation meeting with the Federal Government, the workers under the aegis of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) agreed to suspend the industrial action for 2 weeks.
The suspension follows decisions reached after an emergency meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.
Members of the union across the country had earlier shut down their offices leading to total blackout across the country.
The electricity workers under NUEE and the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEC) together, agreed put the industrial action on hold on the advise of the Ngige.
Secretary General of NUEE, Joe Ajaero, confirmed suspension while addressing newsmen.
Ajaero expressed hope that the government would act in good faith on the issues in dispute which have lingered for years.
The President of SSAEC, Chika Ben, on his part, expressed hope that the issues would be resolved.
Ngige while speaking on the outcome of the meeting said, they agreed to form a committee to look into the grievances of the electricity workers and report back in two weeks.
However, Nigerians have taken to the micro-blogging platform, Twitter to express their reactions to the development.
