Elizabeth Oyeniyi, 22-year old former beauty queen and mother of 1 has accused Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Abdulmumui Danga of abduction, torture and rape.
Elizabeth narrated her ordeal to Dorothy Njemanze, a female gender rights activist.
In an interview with Dorothy, she said that her offence was an advises posted to the commissioner to help his sister. The commissioner’s sister was Elizabeth Oyeniyi’s friend who was going through financial challenges.
She gave Commissioner Dang the advise via her social media handles when she saw him distributing covid-19 relief materials to the public.
Narrating her ordeal, Elizabeth said,
“On 29 March, the commissioner was shown my post and he ordered some boys to pick me up and they took me and his sister from Okene to Lokoja and the commissioner personally flogged us.
“He tore my cloth and made a naked video of me which he threatened to circulate and he kept me in his Lokoja house asking me to make another post apologising and countering my first post where I told him to assist his sister who was my friend.
“He did not release me on that day but kept me in his house. In the night, he made sexual advances at me and I allowed him to have sex with me because of fear and anxiety.
“He only took me back to Okene the second day because they have an assignment in Okene.”
Elizabeth says she is still frightened as at the time of her interview due to fears of another attack by the commissioner.
Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has since waded in and ordered and investigation into the report.
However, NGOs, civil liberty organisations and Dorothy Njemanze Foundation have called for the immediate suspension of Abdulmumuni Danga from his current position.
Dorothy Njemanze on her part, maintains that “this is the heath of abuse of power and outright violation of rights. If left unaddressed, such heinous acts by power holders against women will increase hereby leaving women and girls more vulnerable than ever.
“This situation cannot go unaddressed. We are calling on the Kogi State government to demonstrate its commitment to addressing gender-based violence and redeem itself now.
Kogi Reports, quotes Njemanze as saying that Mr. Danga has also been accused of assaulting another woman and her children a week before the current incident. He is alleged to have stripped the woman and assaulted her and and her kids with pepper spray.”
