Lawmakers in the House of Representatives have scheduled an emergency plenary over the purported presidential ambition of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
The plenary session is slated for Monday, 9th of May with the presidential ambition of the apex bank boss top on the agenda.
The lower legislative chamber had earlier adjourned sitting till Tuesday, May 24, following the Sallah celebration.
In a statement by the Clerk of the House, Dr Yahaya Danzariya, the emergency plenary session will begin at 2:00 pm and members would express their views regarding the issue and other critical issues of national importance
“It is particularly intended to discuss critical issues of national importance. The House regrets any inconvenience this short notice would have caused”, the statement said.
Daily Trust reports that Emefiele’s allies in the National Assembly were making frantic efforts to reach out to the House Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, on the issue
The urgency of the plenary comes two days after a coalition group purchased the nomination and expression of interest forms of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on his behalf.
The CBN Governor as however, denied any interest in the presidential race and thanked the groups who obtained the nomination and expression of interest forms for him.
In a series of tweets on Saturday, Emefiele said if he decides to contest, he would use his personal resources to procure the forms. He added that he would take a decision in the days ahead.
