The Lagos State Judicial Panel on Restitution for victims of Police and SARS brutality has returned the Lekki Toll Gate to its owners, the Lekki Concession Company (LCC)
Justice Doris Okuwobi gave the ruling during the panel sitting on Saturday, 6th February allowing LCC to repossess the toll gate.
This is the 4th time that counsel to LCC, Demola Seriki is making an application for repossession.
Having listened to arguments for and against the motion, Justice Okuwobi along with four other members of the panel granted his prayer.
The other four members include:
- Segun Awosanya (also known as Segalink)
- Oluwatoyin Odusanya (Director Citizen’s Right)
- Deputy Inspector General of Police, Taiwo Lakanu (representing the police)
- Lucas Koyejo (National Human Rights Commission)
Counsel to LCC, Mr Seriki prayed the panel to allow the company repossess the toll gate to enable it evaluate the damages, make insurance claims and commence necessary repairs.
The repairs are expected to last two months.
Soon after receiving the panel chairman’s verdict, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) appeared with three members of the panel to protest the ruling.
They include:
Runuola Oduola and Temitope Majekodunmi (representing the youths), Patience Udoh (representing civil society).
They insisted that they are not in support of the repossession and reopening of the gate by LCC.
