Enugu Residents Protest Against Perennial Sit-at-Home Order (video

Residents of Enugu State today, July 24, protested against the endless sit-at-home order.

They stormed the streets in their thousands to defy the regular order championed by Europe-based Simon Ekpa.

The protesters carried banners that read “Enough is Enough” as they marched through some streets.

In the past two years, residents of the Southeast have been observing a sit-at-home that was ordered by a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and sponsored by Simon Ekpa.

The IPOB initially started the sit-at-home campaign to push for the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The initiative was later hijacked by Simon Ekpa, who has allegedly been empowering thugs to cause havoc in the region under the guise of enforcing the order.

The order has crippled the economic life of citizens and led to economic hardship in the region as people hardly come out on Mondays and whenever the order is given.

Ekpa recently ordered Southeast residents to stay at home for one week.

On Sunday, the Enugu State government threatened to sanction anybody, groups, or organisations that observe the sit-at-home.
