Ethnic, Regional Sentiments, Perfect Trump Card Against Obi as Tinubu’s Camp, Sheikh Gumi Speak

Many social media watchers and the public in general are amazed at the following that the Labour Party has amassed within the few months that Peter Obi emerged the flag bearer.

So many negative narratives have been thrown up against him but nearly all of them have contributed to his rising profile as researches prove the naysayers wrong all the time.

The latest trump card is the ethnic and religious sentiment.

One of such is an unconfirmed narrative from a Nigerian identified as Engineer Abisoye who revealed that he has “switched from backing Peter Obi to supporting Bola Tinubu.”

He said that he just released that “Once Obi comes in, the Igbos will hijack the presidency and in no time, an Igbo man becomes governor of Lagos State.”

Abisoye added that the Igbo governor will appropriate all Yoruba land and commence land redistribution.

He went down memory lane through the civil war with a stronger caveat against anyone planning to vote the Labour Party.

He said: We are trying to extricate ourselves from the Fulani assault only to be put under Igbo domination and hegemony in our own land—all the way from the East, crossing River Niger, Delta State and Edo State, what Ojukwu tried to do militarily but was stopped at Ore.

“The Yoruba soldiers fought Ojukwu troops hard until they were rooted which was later to become the sing song: O leku bi ija ore!!!

“The Igbos are seeing 2023 differently from the way the Yorubas are seeing same. The Yorubas are seeing an opportunity for a new order but the Igbos are seeing it differently. Henceforth It must be up to us to secure our land first.“

Taking a more pragmatic stance and after assessing the chances of presidential candidates in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, a renowned Northern Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, warned Nigerians against electing an inexperienced and unpatriotic politician as president

In an article monitored in the guardian, Gumi noted that weighing the chances of candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, Gumi insisted that Nigeria does not need a novice as president, but an experienced politician to lead Nigeria

When asked about Atiku that had contested for the presidency several times, Gumi noted that there is nothing wrong for politicians to contest elections several times until they achieve victory.

On Tinubu’s claim that it is his turn to be president, Gumi said: “It is not proper for him to say it is his turn. No politician should say it is his turn; if people like you, they will vote for you. He is a good administrator; he can do it. The Muslim-Muslim ticket is unnecessary.“

Speaking of chances the Labour Party presidential candidate, Obi has, the Islamic cleric said: “Youths are divided in their support for him just like the adults. He needs to reach out to other segments of society. Relying on youths is not enough. He has to be all over the place, and not leaving politics in one region.”

Gumi, therefore, warned that if an inexperienced politician were voted into office, he would find it difficult to assemble the best brains to set the nation working progressively.

An anonymous contributor, after evaluating the rising sentiments aimed at disrupting the massive support for Peter Obi said:

Really sad that this theory is taking this turn.

“Obi was not partisan in his home state as governor, why would he do it at the federal level with a vice that cannot be intimidated or bullied ? Civil servants, political jobbers and particularly government workers in his state hated him as governor because he had no favourites. The progress of the state was paramount.

“Well, it’s not compulsory that he wins and he won’t blackmail, bully or engage in campaign of calumny to achieve his aim.

“His point is, if you are concerned about the voiceless Nigerian or future generations, then vote wisely.

“Vote a man of integrity. A federal citizen with no questions on his true identity and business enterprise.

“I’m definitely not partisan but if I voted for a bad product sold to me in the past, I won’t make the mistake again.

“The Afeniferes, the Omoluabis, Obasanjo and other real elites of Lagos have issued caveats.
