A former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos and one described as an eminent academic, Professor Ibidapo-Obe is dead.
He is reported to have died of complications arising from covid19.
Until his death, the former lecturer was a renowned professor of Systems Engineering.
Close associates describe him as an excellent educationist and public administrator of top standing.
He has to his credit, the publication of several ground-breaking academic and professional journals.
Born July 1945, Prof Obe attended Lagos Street Africa Church Primary School, Ebute-Metta and Obokun High School/Ilesha Grammar School from 1962 -1966 respectively.
He then proceeded to Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos from 1966 – 1968 from where he proceeded to study and obtain a degree in Mathematics from the University of Lagos.
Professor Ibidapo Obe also graduated with a Masters degree in Applied Mathematics and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Ontario Canada where he majored in Applied Mechanics.
His professional career includes serving as Visiting Research Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the State University of New York, Buffalo, USA among several others.
The eminent professor was named Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos in 2000 succeeding Professor Jellili Adebisi Omotola.
