The family of Nigeria’s late popular award-winning actress Rachel Oniga has fixed her burial date.
They announced that the 26th and 27th of August, 2021 have been set aside fo the burial.
Tunji Oniga, son of the late actress disclosed the date while speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Lagos.
Mr Oniga told the News Agency of Nigeria that the wake-keep will hold on the 26th of August, 2021 at her residence in Magodo, Lagos.
The late actress will then be laid to rest on the 27th of August at a cemetery yet to be revealed by the family, the son said.
According to him, “My mother’s death is shocking to me. In fact, I don’t believe she is dead. When I see her phone rings and she isn’t there to pick the call, the reality will dawn on me.
“She was a philanthropist who is always bothered about the needs of others.”
A sister to late Rachel Oniga dispelled rumours of her dying from complications arising from covid19.
Ms Toyin Odusote said in a statement made available to Premium Times on behalf of the family that, “Contrary to diverse reports informing she died of covid19 complications, we write to inform the general public that she died from heart-related issue: an ailment she battled for a short period before her demise.
“We accept her sudden transition as God’s design and we see it as a function of a race of life well finished. Painful as it may be, we accept it in good faith and total submission to her maker.“
Originally from Eku, Delta State in Southern Nigeria, Rachel Oniga was born on 23 May 1957 in Ebute Metta, Lagos State.
She died at aLagos hospital on the 30th of July, 2021.
