The family of the newspaper vendor shot and killed by a security aide attached to the Speaker of the House of Representatives has demanded a N500 million compensation.
Having confirmed that indeed, his security aide’s bullet hit the vendor, the Speaker wrote a personal condolence letter to his family.
#Gbajabiamila said he hd handed over the assailant Abdullahi M Hassan to security operatives for investigation.
He promised to take charge of his wife and immediate family’s upkeep to reduce the pain of his sudden death.
However, in a letter written by the family lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), the family said that no amount of money would replace their son, bread winner and brother.
Ozekhome said that the compensation “will at least mitigate the the obvious trauma and hardship the premature demise of their breadwinner has placed on them.”
The lawyer added that failure to accede to the demands within 7 days, the family will take legal action against the speaker.
Earlier in the week, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila visited the wife of newspaper vendor Ifeanyi Okereke.
The vendor’s wife had only given birth a few days back and it is reported that the family was preparing for the naming ceremony when they received the news of his death.
