Images have begun to emerge showing that the collapsed Ikoyi mansion may have been threatened by a faulty pillar.

Reports and a picture showed that the edifice tilted days before the accident which led to the death of many with an unspecified number still missing.

The structure being developed by Forescore Homes collapsed on Monday, November 1 leading to the death of more than 40 people with 15 injured and many still unaccounted for.

A picture taken by a resident in the neighbourhood a few days before the incident showed the building had tilted but was still standing.

Another footage showed an applicant who says he is an engineer recording corrections being made on the ground floor because of the faulty pillar.

Poles were used to prop up the roof of the ground floor while efforts were on to reconstruct the bad pillar.

The engineer’s application was rejected and he says he is grateful he was not employed as the building went down hours afterwards.

The owner of the Fourscore Homes, Femi Osibona lost his life in the incident along with a close friend of his, Wale Bob-Oseni who was on his way to catch a flight to the US but only stopped by to see him.

Nonetheless, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat regretted the tragedy saying that construction on the site had been stopped by a government agency as it failed integrity tests.

According to him, the building was sealed “because our agency came in to do structural tests and saw some anomalies.”

A few days before the collapse, a video footage showed the owner of the structure resisting the sealing off of the property.

However, a team of operatives who appeared to be officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) insisted, in the video, on sealing off the building.
