After reaching a concesus with State Governors, Commissioners of Education and other stakeholders, the Federal Government has fixed January 18 as resumption date for schools.
The the decision was taken at the a meeting between the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu and the state Commissioners of Education.
Arc Sonny Echono, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education confirmed the development to newsmen today.
According to him, “We have had extensive discussions with state governors, proprietors of schools, labour/staff unions and students’ representatives. The consensus is that we should reopen all schools
Corroborating the decision, Malam Adamu Adamu said that “you will recall that at the Monday briefing of the PTF, I mentioned that the task force directed our ministry to review the January 18 planned resumption date and come back with a decision on whether to retain it or further extend the school closure.
“The outcome of our consultation is that majority of the stakeholders want January 18 resumption date to remain.
“So it is now our collective decision that the resumption should remain January 18. We intend to make the formal announcement today (Thursday) or tomorrow (Friday.”
Meanwhile, Universities have started sending out emails to students and guardians on individual school resumptions.
Babcork University was one of the schools to send its schedule of resumption.
