The Apex Igbo socio cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide has warned that the Federal Government of Nigeria may be forced to declare a state of emergency in Anambra State.
This follows the gruesome murder of Dr Chike Akunyili, the husband of the late Director-General of the the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dora Akunyili.
Dr Akunyili is said to have gone to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka to receive a post humous award on behalf of his late wife.
In a statement made available to Politics Nigeria on Wednesday afternoon and signed by the Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group condemned the killing of Akunyili.
It urged the state Governor, Willie Obiano to ensure that the murderers are apprehended and made to face justice as soon as possible.
Excerpts of the statement:
The onslaught on Dr Chike Akunyili, the husband of late Prof Dora Akunyili is atrocious, horrendous, unacceptable and barbaric.
“Governor Willie Obiano should ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime and murder are brought to face the consequences of their actions before the laws of the land.
FG might use the pretence of the proclamation of the southeast as a RED ZONE to declare a state of emergency in Anambra State before the Anambra elections.”
