The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Covid19, on Monday, warned states about re-opening schools fully.
The warning came during the PTF on #COVID19 briefing. It noted that states should learn and be guided by the experiences of countries with even stronger health systems like the United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany and France.
The task force noted that it is however, not against the planned full re-opening of schools by some states but everyone must bear in mind that it comes with enormous risks.
The Chairman of the the Presidential Task Force on covid19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha said during his briefing on the 31st of August that:
“The Presidential Task Force appreciates ongoing calls for the re-opening of the education sector. And indeed some sub-nationals are already making preparations for such.
“Whilst the PTF does not discourage such preparations, we need to be guided by experiences from countries such as Germany, France, the US and the UK where the opening of schools in some cities led to confirmed cases and fatalities.”
It will be recalled that the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, last week, announced the full re-opening of all schools from primary to the tertiary levels.
Schools in Nigeria have been shut since March when the covid19 pandemic broke out in the country.
