Female Rice Farmer Attacked with Machetes by Suspected Herdsmen

A female rice Farmer, Amaka Okafor is alleged to have been attacked with machetes by suspected herdsmen on her farm at Ogbese town in Akure North Local Government Area of #Ondo #State.

Reports say she accosted the herders whose cattle were destroying her farm. She was then attacked with the machetes resulting in deep cuts on her head and arms.

The wounds also caused her severe bleeding from the wounds.

Fortunately, Amaka survived the attack after she was rushed to a nearby hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.

The attack happened in spite of the rejection of open grazing by the state government.

The Ondo State Government had issued a directive that all herdsmen vacate its forests. It also banned open grazing within the state’s borders.

The government is said to be working on an enclosed grazing system where willing herders could practice their trade.

Speaking on the machete attack on the female rice farmer, Amaka Okafor, the spokesman for the Ondo State Police Command, Leo Tee-Ikoro said that investigations are ongoing with a view to unearthing the identities of her assailants.

He added that, “Fortunately, the woman said she can identify her attackers. So, this is a case where the attackers are well known to the woman.
