The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Works and Housing has announced the date it will reopen the Eko and Marine Bridges.
Both bridges located in Lagos, will reopen on Monday, October 19th, 2020.
They were both shut down to vehicular traffic in March and May respectively to allow for repairs on the failing parts.
On Saturday, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola ordered that both bridges be opened to traffic on the 19th of October.
The message was relayed in a statement by the ministry’s Director of Press and Publicity, Boade Akinola.
The message was captioned, “After Emergency Repairs by FG, Fashola Approves Reopening of Eko, Marine Bridges on Monday.”
It is expected that reopening both bridges will reduce the heavy traffic caused by the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge.
Earlier this month, Federal Government announced the total closure of Third Mainland Bridge over 2 weekends.
It was initially partially shut for outbound traffic in the mornings but reopens for outbound traffic in the evenings.
This is to allow workers who commute to work in the morning to move freely from the Mainland to to the Island and allow them return freely to the Mainland in the evenings after work.
