The Federal Government of Nigeria has increased the rates for vehicle number plates and drivers licenses by an average of 50%.
The Joint Tax Board disclosed this in a letter dated 30th July, 2021 and signed by the board secretary, Obomeghfe Nana-Aisha.
The letter states that private and commercial vehicle numbers plates will henceforth attract N18,750 against the old rate of N12,500.
- Fancy number plates which used to be N80,000 is now N200,000
- Motorcycle number plate is increased to N5,000 from N3,000
- Articulated vehicle number plates now cost N30,000 instead of N20,000
- Out of series number plates, N50,000 from N40,000
- Government fancy number plate goes up to N20,000 from N15,000
Drivers licence:
- 3 years: N10,000 instead of N6,000 excluding bank charges
- 5 years: N15,000 instead of N10,000
- Motorcycle/tricycle drivers licence for 3 years becomes N5,000 instead of N3,000
- 5-year Motorcycle/tricycle drivers licence: N8,000 from N5,000
The board has directed all federal and state agencies to begin the implementation of all rates.
The letter states that, “you may wish to recall that at the 147th meeting of the Joint Tax Board held in Kaduna, Kaduna State on March 25, 2021, the board approved revised rates for the sale of vehicle number plates and driving licence in line with the recommendations of Appraisal and Technical Committee of the JTB.
“In the light of the foregoing, we wish to inform you that the Chairman, JTB, has approved Thursday, August 1, 2021 as the commencement date for the implementation of the new rates,”
