The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has revealed the next line of action after a court ordered it to pay N20 billon compensation to Sunday Igboho.
The compensation is in respect of damages to the home of the Yoruba Nation activist during a raid by the Department of State Services (DSS) on the 1st of July.
The Federal Government says it will not immediately pay the damages but would appeal the decision of the high court which held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The position of the Federal government was made known by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
Malami made the policy of FG known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, in Abuja.
The Oyo State High Court, sitting in Ibadan had on Friday, ordered the Federal Government to pay the Yoruba Nation Agitator N20 billion.
Justice Ladiran Akintola ruled that the invasion by the secret police was illegal and prejudiced.
On its part, the DSS said it has not been served with any document ordering it to pay damages to Igboho.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Yoruba Nation activist and Ilana Oodua, Maxwell Adeleye described the court ruling as a victory of light over illegalities.
