The Federal Government has issued a warning that it will not allow the country to descend into anarchy.
This, according to the Information Minister, Lai Muhammed is as a result of the violence that has trailed the #ENDSARS protests.
He made the position of the government known when he featured in a Nigerian Television Authority program, ‘Weekend File’ on Saturday.
The theme of the discussion was “#ENDSARS Protest. The Way Forward.”
According to The Information Minister, the peaceful protest has been hijacked by hoodlums and others with sinister motives.
He added that the original organisers of the movement may have meant well, but they have lost control to strange characters.
In his words, “Peaceful protests is an integral part of democracy and that was why the Federal Government in the last 11 days has treated protesters in a very civilised manner.
“But if you look at what happened to the Governor of Osun State, it has gone completely beyond peaceful protest against excesses and abuse of power by the police.
“There is nowhere in the word where a government will fold its arms and allow the country to descent into anarchy.
Lai Muhammed added that “We are no longer dealing with #ENDSARS but a volatile situation that can lead to anarchy if the government does not take some firm steps to protect the lives and livelihood of innocent Nigerians.”
