Bandits terrorists have finally released over 70 pupils of Salihu Tanko Islamiyya School in Tegina, Niger State.
The children, some of who are toddlers as young as 3 years were abducted from the Islamic school on the 30th of May during school hours.
The released pupils were also reported to be on their way to Mina through Kagara from Birnin Gwari as of Thursday night.
Abubakar Alhassan, the school principal recently announced the death of 6 out of 136 of the abducted pupils.
According to him, the bandits called to inform him that the deceased died of illness while others are severely malnourished.
He added that the bandits demanded the sum of N110 million but later raised the ransom to N200 million.
Alhassan further disclosed that they later reminded him of the prompt payment of the ransom for the release of the remaining captives. However, the parents were only able to raise N30 million.
In spite of the paid up amount, the children were not released but instead, they received the reviewed demand from the kidnappers.
In all, the pupils were held captive for 89 days.
Other students still in captivity are Yauri Federal Government College: 70 days; Bethel Baptist School, Kaduna: 52 days.
