After much backlash from Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, President Muhammad Buhari has finally broken his silence on Tuesday’s #LekkiMassacre.
Men in full Nigerian Army uniform invaded and opened fire on peaceful $EndSARS youth protesters at the Lekki Toll Plaza on the night of the 20th of October.
Live bullets were fired directly at youths holding up the nation’s flag and chanting the National Anthem in horror and despair.
The State government denies that there were any deaths on the day of the massacre in spite of the many injuries recorded.

In his address two days later, the President did not mention the incident but instead ordered the suspension of all #EndSARS protests across the country.
According to him, “I therefore call on our youths to discontinue the street protests and constructively engage government in finding solutions.
“Your voice has been heard loud and clear and we are responding.”
Infuriated Nigerians condemned the President for not saying anything about the killings.
This no doubt prompted the presidency to issue a statement on Friday through its official Twitter handle.
The statement quotes @NGRPresident as saying that “I am deeply pained that innocent lives have been lost.
“These tragedies are uncalled for and unnecessary.”
