There was a fire outbreak at the popular Mushin Foam Market today, August 1st, 2020.

The fire started at number 16 Ladipo Street in Mushin.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, (LASEMA) the fire started at about 1:00pm at a shop dealing in Mattresses.

LASEMA Spokesperson, Nosa Okunbo said that emergency officials deployed to the scene prevented the flames from escalating to other buildings within the neighbourhood.

According to Okunbo, “LRT led by the DG/CEO LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyantolu, officers of the Nigeria Police, Lagos State Government Fire Service, LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) Fire, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) are responders at the scene working together to curtail the inferno from escalating to more adjoining buildings.

He added that “rescue operation is ongoing.”

LASEMA DG Oke Osanyantolu complained that the crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene was making rescue operation difficult.

He later reported that “the fire, which cause is yet to be ascertained has now been brought under control and stopped from further escalating to other buildings with no loss of life no injuries recorded so far at the scene of the incident.

Items worth millions of Naira were lost to the inferno.
