Fire, today, gutted the Adetokunbo Ademola Street (VI) branch of Access Bank.
It is reported that a petrol tanker that exploded near the bank ignited the premises setting it ablaze as huge plumes of smoke soon erupted.
The Federal Fire Service confirmed the incident in a tweet saying that “our men are on ground, trying to combat the inferno. Thanks for notifying us.”
“Men of the Federal Fire Service are already at the scene ( ADEMOLA ADETOKUNBO, VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA.) Where a Petrol tanker is currently on fire, close to an access bank branch. Please take alternative routes. #SafetyFirst”
It is reported that the branch is one of the newest in the country.
Access Bank is also one of the largest commercial banking institutions in Nigeria. However, much of its operations have been impacted by the covid19 pandemic lockdown which caused disruptions in all of the world’s institutions.
The fire incident is therefore, least expected as the bank, like many other organisations, has put in measures to brace itself against against the impact of the pandemic.
Access Bank also recently merged with Diamond Bank and has harnessed the venture to expand its operations.
Onlookers were shocked to see the fire outbreak at the VI branch being a new location.
The extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained. No human casualty has also been reported but fire fighters successfully brought the fire under control.
