An early morning fire has razed a popular market in the Karimo area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
Traders were seen in hurdles watching the inferno and counting their losses as goods worth millions of Naira were completely destroyed.
The cause of the fire is sill not known even at the moment of filing this report. However, efforts are underway to contain the inferno and avoid further spread.
A trader who gave his name as Sunday, told The Nations that the inferno started from a shop before spreading to others.
This is however, not the first time a fire has broken out in the Karimo market. It also comes barely 1 week after a fire broke out at the Apongbon Market of Lagos Island.
The Lagos incident claimed many shops, weakened the Apongbon Bridge and affected some cars parked underneath.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered a total closure of the market while directing all traders in the market to vacate with immediate effect.
An assessment of the damage will begin soon with a view to reconstructing the bridge.
