The Lagos State Government is set to deploy the FLM mini-buses to serve roads outside of the main transport routes in the state.
The beauty of his latest transport project is that the vehicles were assembled in Lagos, thereby affording the unemployed skilled labour the opportunity to be gainfully engaged.
Giving an update on behalf to the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile said that “the FLM Bus Scheme will enhance mobility, improve accessibility and affordability for commuters within the existing bus system; will increase access to quality public transport services for all members of the society.“
He gave the update on Monday afternoon.
“One of the pillars of the THEMES agenda, Transportation and Traffic Management under the administration of Mr. Governor, @jidesanwoolu is taking form with the introduction of the First and Last Mile (FLM) Bus Scheme.
“An innovative transport option which gives commuters in communities outside the main transit corridor a wider berth to access transport routes. This is a part of the Statewide Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) conceived to develop a coherent, formalised and regulated bus transport system and network across the State with the sole aim of implementing a rationalised Bus Route Network.
“With strict objectivity, the FLM Bus Scheme will enhance mobility, improve accessibility and affordability for commuters within the existing bus system; will increase access to quality public transport services for all members of the society.
“It will also expand the reach of transit through infrastructure improvement; and enhance safety and security @lagosmot18 in conjunction with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority activated the First and Last Mile Bus Scheme as detailed in the STMP and soon delineated the state into eight zones for ease of its implementation and operations.
“The zones include: Zone 1: Ikeja and Ketu; Zone 2: Oshodi, Mushin, and Surulere; Zone 3: Berger, Yaba and Oyingbo; Zone 4: Lagos Island, Ajah and Ibeju Lekki; Zone 5: Iyana-ipaja and Agege; Zone 6: Mile 2, Iyana-Iba and Ajeromi; Zone 7: Ikorodu; and Zone 8: Epe and Badagry.
“The FLM scheme,in line with the BRI objectives&methodology, entails LASG partnering with private Investors. They’ll provide buses with seating capacity ranging from 7-13 seaters. The Government plans to make available 2,000 units of 7-13 seater micro buses in the 1st phase.”
