The former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, today, stormed Kaduna, the home state of his childhood friend, Governor Nasir El Rufai.
His visit comes 5 months after he was dethroned by his state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje. It will also be his very first visit to any northern state since he left the throne.
The former Emir has been a friend of El Rufai for over 4 decades. On arrival in Kaduna, his motorcade was escorted by a tumultuous crowd of supporters.
Some of the supporters carried campaign posters displaying 2023 and his photograph.
Prior to being deposed, Sanusi has had a running battle with Abdullahi Ganduje since the later took up the reins of power as Kaduna State Governor. It is believed that he was deposed for opposing the governor’s re-election.
The last the former Emir of Kano visited Kaduna was during the 60th birthday of El Rufai.
An aid of the the former monarch, Dr Sulaiman Shinkafi said he will spend at least 1 week in Kaduna to be able to attend to visitors who always wanted to meet with him.
According to him, “since his dethronement, many people have indicated the intensions to visit him in Lagos. But the monarch decided to relieve them the stress of travelling as far as Lagos.”
Shinkafi added that Sanusi would also visit Sokoto to meet with Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad. The next place on his itinerary is Azare, Katagum, where his late grandfather, Muhammad Sanusi I stayed when he was also deposed by the late Sadauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
