The immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi is dead.
The news broke this evening by 97.3fm Radio. The governor was aged 70.
Abiola Ajimobi contracted COVID19 and had been battling the ailment for several weeks.
He was admitted at the First Cardiology Hospital, Ikoyi, the same hospital where the President’s former Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari and Late Senator Bayo Osinowo were reportedly admitted.
Reports also say that the former governor died of complications from diabetes and other underlining ailments that COVID19 normally preys on. Just before his death, he fell unconscious as his vital organs completely collapsed following which he became nearly totally unresponsive even with life support.
Another source corroborates the report: “his organs collapsed about a week ago. It is just that the family didn’t want to unplug the life support.”
The source prayed for the repose of his should. This online news platform can indeed confirm that Abiola Ajimobi is dead.
News of his death broke about a week ago from some journalists including Fisayo Soyombo, an investigative journalist but was debunked by close family including his daughter-in-law. However, Soyombo insisted that his information is from a very reliable source who never failed him.
According to him, “My source insists the late Governor is gone even though he still hasn’t been disconnected from life support. I understand that other than placing him on life support, Firs Cardiology Consultants is currently not doing anything else.”
A former Senator from 2003 to 2007, Ajimobi made several attempts to become Oyo State governor until his successful attempt in 2011. He was re-elected in 2015 and is on record as the only Oyo state governor to serve 2 terms.
