Former President Jerry Rawlings of Ghana was today, buried with full military honours.
Representatives of world governments were on hand to pay their last respects.
Ahead of the final burial, a Catholic Requiem Mass was held on Sunday in his honour.
In attendance was the current Ghanaian president, Nana Akufo-Addo.
Rawlings died in November 2020 at the age of 73 after contracting coronavirus.
He was Ghana’s Commander in Chief for 2 decades, first as Military Head of State and then as Civil President.
A former airforce pilot, Rawlings was given a guard of honour at the Independence Square, Accra, the nation’s capital – an arena that is considered Ghana’s victory over the British colonial rule.
Ghanaians in their numbers, trouped out earlier in the week to pay their last respects during a 2-day national mourning under strict covid19 safety protocols.
In her tribute, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, his widow said, “Your took pride in your family duties… you’re passionate and open-hearted.”
