A former coach of the Super Falcons, Ismaila Mabo, who died at the age of 80 has been buried in line with Islamic injunctions.
The Octogenarian’s death was announced earlier today, March 13, by his younger brother and a former Golden Eaglets player, Salisu Nakande Mamuwa.
Mamuwa wrote: “Inna lillahi wa Inna ilaihir raji’un , i just lost my elder brother these morning, Coach Mabo Ismaila, former Chief Coach of Super Falcons of Nigeria, may Aljanna Firdausi b his final abode, Ameen thumma Ameen.”
His funeral rites also held today in Jos, Plateau State.
Ismaila was the head coach of the senior women’s national team at the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup, 2000 Summer Olympics and 2004 Summer Olympics.
According to the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL), “We remember our pioneer @NGSuper_Falcons coach Ismaila Mabo, who passed away today at the age of 80. He won the first official @CAFwomen‘s Afcon in 1998 and led Nigeria to a @FIFAWWC quarterfinal at USA 1999. Our condolences to his family and women’s football community.”
He also led Nigeria to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, the team’s best ever result.
