Fresh Graduate Commits Suicide over Fears of Carryover

News - Women's Perspective

A fresh graduate of the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun has committed suicide when she discovered she had a carryover.

Deborah Ayomikun was a 400 level student of the Department of Adult Education and was reported to have taken a poisonous substance which killed her instantly.

In a Facebook post shared by Nendirmwa Heph, the fresh graduate took the poisonous substance as a result of fear from frustration and backlash.

Nendirnwa’s post:

SUICIDE ALERT”””****””

I have just been informed by a friend, Ronke Adeniran that her cousin Miss Ayomikun Deborah, a 400 level student of department of Adult Education in Tai Solarin University of Education [TASUED)Ijagun has taken her own life or committed suicide after she found out that she has an extension or now has a possible extra year. The frustration and backlash of coming back after the jamboree of signing out and jollification that ensued made the young lady take a poisonous substance and died instantaneously.

This is sad and avoidable. I feel for her and her family. No matter what you face, Nothing is worth taking your life folks.

Reactions:

Muhammad Musa Bazza 100% agree with you. My the Almighty God grand her family the fortitude to bear the lost.

Kim Isaac That’s why you need to talk to someone. Human heart can take rash decisions when left on it’s own. Sad

Precious Igho Otabomwovo Is extension an end to life? What level of pride could have informed this foolish and unfortunate decision? If she weren’t selfish, she would have thought of those whom her death would cause great pain before taking her life. She’s not the first to have an extra year, she definitely won’t be the last. This is nonsense!

Goselle Daniel I don’t whether to feel sorry or to be angry but sympathy or not, the deed cannot be undone. my only message to the public is to speak to someone about issues bothering you even if the person cannot proffer solution, speaking out is a legit relaxant of raging emotions.

Dorcas Yoila Gemu Quinnie  · Hmm mm, that’s bad, I can relate to the thought of having to add a semester. My 200L second semester was the only semester,I had carryover, and it was really not funny, thinking of the fact that I will be on Industrial attachment in my 300L second semester and it’s not possible to re-write, which I will have to rewrite that 200L course in my second semester 400L. With the whole stress of 400L, my undergraduate science project even took me outside the state and having to attend a 200L course in Mathematics Dept was scary, I thought I’ll not pass that course, if I rewrite. I was so scared of extra year, scared of how my parents will take it and also scared of the stigmatization from friends and people around. But I was grateful, I passed that course and graduated with my mates. The thing here is that, Parents should learn to encourage there kids that it’s okay to fail at some point in life, and never to give up, they should work hard till they have achieve that thing they failed at. It will go a long way to help them cope even if the society are stigmatizing.Sorry I wrote long
