The ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ reunion debuted on HBO Max in the US on Thursday.
The cast was less the series patriarch, James Avery who died of complications from an open heart surgery in 2013.
The reunion marks the 30th anniversary of the comedy that took the airwaves between 1990 and 1996.
Created by Andy and Susan Borowitz, the sitcom TV series aired originally on NBC through six seasons.
The’Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ theme song equally became popular with children of the era.
It features fictional Will whose mother sent away from the rough Philadelphia neighbourhood to live with his rich uncle Phil and Aunt Vivian in Bel-Air.
Will had a great time at the expense of his stuck-up cousins Carlton ad Hilary.
The entire cast became a family of sorts, living out the bond formed from the drama even off-set.
Expectedly, as with most family relationships, tension was created between Will Smith and Janet Hubert, the original Aunt Viv.
They both eventually openly discussed the reason for the rift at the reunion in a slightly tense conversation.
Fences appear mended after all even if the discussion got somewhat emotional. Hubert confirms that she received her healing from the reunion.
Equally emotional were the tribute to James Avery whom the the rest of the cast extolled for the lessons he thought each person.
In the first half of the 90s, ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ series resonated with people of all ages who identified with at least one part of the drama.
A reboot is in the offing, inspired by Will Smith and writer/director Morgan Coopers.
Announcing the project in September, Smith said ‘We have just officially closed the deal with Peacock with an unprecedented two-season order from a pitch.
I’ve been in the business for 30 years and tat does not happen.”
