Fresh UniUyo Graduate Wrongfully Arrested Dies in Custody

A fresh graduate of the University of Uyo (UniUyo) who was wrongfully arrested, has allegedly died in police custody.

It is alleged that men of the Nigerian Police Force wrongly arrested Kubiet Akpan and clamped him in detention at the B Division, Ewet Housing Estate, Akwa Ibom.

The young man, popularly called Icon by his friends was arrested on Sunday, 29th of August on allegations of being an armed robber. The allegation was however, refuted by his friends.

One of Akpan’s friends revealed on social media that he was the only son of his parents and was waiting to be called up for the NYSC when he was wrongfully arrested by the police.

Further reports say that fresh graduate was brutally tortured in detention until he died.

Akpan’s friends claim they went in search of him at the police station on hearing he was arrested but the police denied having him in their custody.

When it dawned on the friends that he had been killed, an aunt called the police commissioner and top government officials. It was then they discovered that his corpse had been taken to Akpan Abia mortuary without informing his family.

Investigations into the incident have commenced while friends and family mourn his death on Social media.
