Full reopening of all schools across the country has been ordered by the Federal government.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu gave the directive at a press conference in Abuja.
According to him, the decision was taken after due consultations with stakeholders and the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on covid19.
He also instructed that all institutions must adhere strictly to all the safety protocols before resumption. The guidelines have consistently been reiterated by the Presidential Taskforce #COVID19Nigeria.
According to the Minister, all unity schools should open by October 12 “while states and private schools will determine their own modalities of reopening.“
He explained that with the level of preparedness put in place to test and flatten the infection curve, the government has come to the conclusion that it is now safe to allow the reopening.
Adamu Adamu however, warned that schools which failed to adhere to outlined covid19 safety protocols risk closure if there is an out outbreak from such schools.
Schools were shut across the country on the 19th of March following the outbreak of the dreaded disease.
Minister of Education in a statement at the time said that “we have directed all higher institutions to close this weekend. Unity Schools that have completed their exams are to close immediately. Others are to hurry and close the latest on the 26th of March.“
