Funke Akindele AKA Jenifa has been arrested by the police this afternoon, 5th April.
The actress held a birthday party for her husband in their Amen Estate, Lekki home on Saturday. This is in spite of the the social distancing and stay-at-home order given by the federal and state governments.
President Muhammadu Buhari and indeed the Lagos State Governor had give strict orders on social behaviour while the nation strives to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.
In attendance at the birthday party were not less than 20 youth, her husband Abdulrasheed Bello AKA JJC Skillz and Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley.
Funke Akindele ‘s fans and indeed many Nigerians were enraged by the couple’s action especially when she posted videos of the dance party on social media.
There were also calls for her arrest for risking the lives of her guests and more so, contravening government orders.
The police swiftly swung into action and picked up the actress this afternoon. Reports say she has been taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.
The Police Public Relations Officer Bala Elkana confirmed the arrest to newsman this evening.
According to him, “yes, we have Funke Akindele and we are looking for the others. She has been taken to SCID.
In a video posted today as well, Funke Akindele apologised to her fans, the government and the public for her actions.
She said that everyone at the party was living in her house up till the day of the party. Most of them were her staff and people working on an upcoming project.
The project involved Naira Marley who preferred to stay with them for the period of the lockdown. The others could not travel back to their cities as the notice to return to their various locations was too short.
