Funke Akindele’s ‘Omo Ghetto’ has won its first international award.
The update was posted on Instagram by Film One which stated that ‘Omo Ghetto’ clinched the highest grossing film of 2020/2021 awards at the META Cinema Conference in the United Arab Emirates.

“We are super excited about the latest award accolade won by ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga,’ as Africa’s highest grossing film of 2020/21.
“The award is sponsored by COMSCORE, an international box office date collection company and official data partners of the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).”
The movie became the highest grossing movie of all time after it premiered in December 2020, breaking a 5-year-record for Nollywood.
It dates back to its maiden edition in 2010 and revolves around the thug life of a female lead character known as Shalewa aka Lefty.
It features notable Nolywood actors that include Funke Akindele, Chioma Akpota, Nancy Isime, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Thomas, Deyemi Okanlawon and Mercy Aigbe in the lead roles. .
At the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), it was one of the most nominated.
The plot centres around twin sisters who were separated at birth and later grew to be opposite of one another as they were raised in different backgrounds.
The rich sister is known as Ayomide while the one named Lefty grew up in the slums. The two roles were played by Funke Akindele-Bello.
