Gates Foundation Gives WHO $150 Million to Combat Covid-19

Gates Foundation has given WHO one hundred and fifty million dollars ($150 million) to fight covid-19.

The donation comes as a relief to the world considering that President Donald Trump a few days ago halted US Funding of WHO,

The founders of the Gates Foundation, Bill and Melinda Gates took the measure to assist in the continued world efforts towards ridding the world of the covid-19 pandemic.

In a message on his official Twitter handle, Bill Gates says that “Halting funding for the World Health Organisation is as dangerous as it sounds”

He added that the work of WHO “is slowing the spread of covid-19 and if that work is stopped, no other organisation can replace them.

“The Gates Foundation donation to WHO for the co-ordinated response to the coronavirus disease is now two hundred and fifty million dollars ($250 million).The sum was confirmed in another tweet by the chairman, Bill Gates.

He however cautioned that even if the US missed an opportunity to be relevant in the fight against the coronavirus scourge, it is not late to make amends.

In his words, “There’s no question the United States missed the opportunity to get ahead of the novel #coronavirus. But the window for making important decisions hasn’t closed. The choices we and our leaders make now will have an enormous impact

Gates also added that, “If everything goes well, there might be an effective vaccine in less than 18 months—the fastest a vaccine has ever been developed. That will depend on decisions we make today, including the federal government investing in building up manufacturing capacity.
