George Akume has assumed duty as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The President, Bola Tinubu in a meeting with the Progressives Governors Forum last Friday announced Akume as the SGF and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila as his Chief of Staff.
However, on Wednesday morning, the President administered the Oath of Office on Akume.
Akume, subsequently headed to his office located at the Three Arms Zone in Abuja.
He arrived at exactly 3:30 pm and was ushered in with a performance from a local band.
Akume was received by staff, directors, and permanent secretaries in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
He served as minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs under President Muhammadu Buhari from 2019 to 2023.
Akume was also the Senator representing Benue North-West Senatorial District from 2007 to 2019 and was the Minority Leader of the Senate from June 2011 to June 2015.
He was the elected governor of Benue State from May 1999 to May 2007.
