The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has disowned a Facebook post where he is alleged to have advised Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to shelve his presidential ambition and give Peter Obi a chance.
In a Twitter post during the week, Akufo-Addo said the post the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), is false and mischievous.
The Ghanaian president said he did not author such a post and will never interfere in Nigeria’s internal affairs and politics.
According to Nana Akufo-Addo, “My attention has been drawn to a disturbing post making the rounds on social media, where it is alleged I have written to the 2023 presidential candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to ‘give Peter Obi a chance and seek treatment for his health.
“This is completely false and mischievous, with no iota of truth whatsoever in it.
“I have written no such letter to the APC leader, and it will not occur to me to do so.
“Ghana and Nigeria boast of decades of cordial, strong and brotherly relations, and I am not going to be the one to interfere in the internal affairs and politics of Nigeria.”
The letter which surfaced last week had claimed President Akufo-Addo asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential flag-bearer, Bola Tinubu to step aside for the Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate.
It allegedly urged Tinubu to go take care of his health as he steps down for Obi
Ghanaian High Commission in Nigeria on its part, corroborated its President’s stance with claims that the letter allegedly written by Nana Akufo-Addo about the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria is misleading.
The Ghanaian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Rashid Bawa on Sunday denied any such letter.
Bawa stated that Nigeria and Ghana have always maintained the principle of non-interference in the internal political mechanisms of other countries, hence there is no iota of truth in the purported letter.
According to him, “to that end, the President of the Republic of Ghana will not interfere in Nigeria’s internal affairs and politics, as captured in the series of tweets of Tuesday, 9 August 2022, from His Excellency’s Twitter handle (@NAkufoAddo).
“It is hoped that this added perspective would serve to dispel misconceptions created by the online publication.”
