Ghanaian President is Nana Akufo-Addo has offered a different kind of palliative to citizens of his country to ease the pain of the coronavirus disease lockdown.
He announced to them in his 5th national address, that they would enjoy free and uninterrupted water supply for the months of April, May, June.
Akufo-Addo also instructed the nation’s electric power companies to ensure uninterrupted power supply. These are besides a soft loan offer sponsored by his government.
In his words, “Again, the Ghana Water Company Ltd and the Electricity Company of Ghana have been directed to ensure the stable supply of water and electricity during this period.
“In addition, there will be no disconnection of supply.
“Furthermore, government will absorb the water bills for all Ghanaians for the next 3 months, ie, April, May, June.
“All tankers, publicly and privately-owned, are also going to be mobilised to ensure the supply of water to all vulnerable communities,” the President added.
In as much as Ghanaian President ‘s palliative measures were applauded by his citizens, they are of the opinion that he should have also made power supply free.
Some other Ghanaians are skeptical about the offer of free water supply. They believe that they will eventually pay back in form of taxes and other means.
