The battle for the governorship of Edo State is taking a new turn as news about incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki and an alleged certificate scam has emerged.
There are questions about his WAEC certificate which he submitted at the All Progressives Congress secretariat in Abuja. The certificates were made public by the party.
However, from the assessment of contenders, the Governor was found not to have gotten the number of credits required by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to gain admission into the University. He got 3 credits and 3 passes in his West African Examination Council examination.
The results gleaned at the APC secretariat include: English – P7, Literature – P7, CRK – C6, History – A3, Geography – C6, Chemistry – P8
Governor Obaseki is said to have passed only three of his subjects in WAEC following which he enrolled at the Institute of Continous Education between 1976 and 1979.
Having brushed up his academic credentials at the Institute, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he studied Classics.
There are insinuations that Godwin Obaseki’s candidacy is threatened since he did not pass the requisite 5 subjects that make him eligible for position of governor. . However, some Edo indigenes wonder how he emerged governor in his current tenure if his academic qualification was in doubt.
Others say that if his alma mater have not denied that he was their student, the he has not case to answer.
