Gordon Brown Endorses Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for WTO Job

Former British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, has endorsed Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s candidacy for Director General of the World Trade Centre (WTO).

Brown said his decision is premised on her record of delivering results in “the toughest of jobs.” He believes she would make an “outstanding success” of the organisation currently facing the challenge of global economic disruptions and the resultant crisis brought on by the covid19 pandemic.

He adds that Okonjo-Iweala is respected “across the whole world” and would bring her influence and expertise to bear on the organisation.

As Labour Leader and former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown endorses of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, it means he is not backing Liam Fox. Fox was nominated as candidate by the United Kingdom for the WTO top job.

A development economist, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-lweala currently leads the board of GAVI, (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation). She is also on the board of many world bodies including Standard Chartered Bank, Twitter etc.

She was the Managing Director, Operations of the World Bank between 2007 – 20011 and served as Nigeria’s Finance Minister under the administrations of Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is currently the Special Envoy to Mobilise International Support for Continental Fight Against COVID19.

She has also been endorsed by the West. Africa Sub-Regional body, ECOWAS as well as the Nigerian government.
