Federal Government Begs Naira Marley Not to Lead Youths in Protest

News - Women's Perspective

Nigerian Government through the Minister of Youths and Sports, Sunday Dare, and the Police have begged popular Nigerian singer, Naira Marley not to embark on his planned peaceful protest with his teaming youth supporters.

Mr Dare told Marley that the grievances faced by Nigerians and its youths in particular are being addressed, therefore, the protest would not be necessary.

Naira Marley had called for his fans to come out en masse to protest the inhuman treatment, particularly the extra-judicial killings meted out to them by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.

The singer gave strict guidelines to them on the time and conduct of the protests:

Hundreds of thousands of youth signed up for the protest describing Marley as the Fela Anikulapo Kuti of their time:

In his plea, the Minister of Youths and Sports advised the youth influencer that the Federal Government is determined to tackle the issues.

In a message monitored on his official Twitter handle, Dare said that::

I urge you and other youth not to embark upon any protest. Your grievances are being addressed at the highest level of government. As the Minister in charge of youth I know this is an issue that must be tackled. Government is doing just that.

The Nigerian Police Force PRO, Frank Mba has also weighed in to appeal to Marley to suspend the protest.

Mba called for a live Instagram chat by 11:00am Tuesday morning to answer all his questions:

Naira Marley has subsequently, advised the youth to suspend the strike for 1 week to see exactly what reforms government is making. He also advised them to join the live chat and ask any question they like:

“Marlian nation feel free to join the live and ask any question you want. #togetherWeCan
