Rotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo state has returned to Nigeria after his medical leave abroad, according to his wife, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu.
A source close to the governor also confirmed the return of the Ondo governor, on Thursday.
The source, who pleaded anonymity, said Governor Akeredolu arrived Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, and would be staying at his private residence to take some rest.
He added that some members of the cabinet are already on their way to welcome him back to the country.
“The governor (Akeredolu) is back in the country. We would be in Ibadan at his private residence to take some rest. I’m aware that some members of the state executive council would also visit him there and welcome him,” the source said.
Akeredolu’s wife, Betty Anyanwu, posted a photograph of her husband on social media, tagging it “homebound.”
Governor Akeredolu left Nigeria for a 21-day leave and medical trip to attend to his health in Germany.
He announced his decision to embark on the medical trip on June 7 hoping to return on July 6, 2023, but his prolonged stay caused controversy and political bickering in the state.
On July 15, the governor announced that his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, should take over the running of the state in “acting capacity” pending the time he would resume and be certified fit by his medical doctors.
