The country home of of the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma has been burnt down by unknown gunmen.
The gunmen stormed the house located in Omuma in Olu East Local Government Area in the early hours of Saturday, killing two security guards on duty and setting the house on fire.
Daily Trust reports that one of those killed was a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
An eyewitness who spoke on conditions of anonymity said that cars parked at the compound and part of the building was burnt.
Reports also say that gunmen also killed other security guards at the Oguta-Mgbidi junction. The road leads to the governor’s country home.
A government official who also prefers not to be named said that fire fighters are battling the inferno to avoid it spreading to other parts of the building.

Some of the attackers dressed in black outfit with face covering were seen armed with guns and machetes. One was seen rushing inside with used tyre ostensibly to start fire.”
Residents of the community add that the military have taken over the entire community due to rising tensions.
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, confirmed the incident and reiterated the fact that 2 security men lost their lives during te attack.
According to him, “It is true but it is still not clear. It is not true that several security men lost their lives. About 2 security men on duty at the governor’s house were killed. NSCDC personnel was among the security men who lost lives during the attack.”
