Governor Sanwo-Olu Visits Scene of Collapsed Ikoyi Building (video)

Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited the scene of the collapsed 21-storey Ikoyi building on Wednesday, 3rd of November.

As the the time of the visit, not less than 22 lifeless bodies were pulled out of the rubble.

The Governor was at the scene at about 1:00pm to get first-hand information on the situation as well as an update on the rescue operation.

He used the occassion to thank all first responders on the scene and all Federal and State agencies that are assisting in the rescue efforts.

Sanwo-Olu particularly appreciated construction giants, Julius Berger, Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for their efforts.

He reassured the pubic that the government will investigate the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to book.

He stated that the welfare of the responders will be adequately catered for by the state as measures have been put in place to ensure their welfare.

The governor noted that efforts will continue by NEMA and other responders to recover all victims still trapped under the rubbles.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouk has sent her condolences to families of victims and the Lagos State Government.

She also visited the site on Tuesday where she said that, “This is tragic. I sympathise with the Lagos State government and families of people still tapped inside the rubble.

“We have mobilised immediate rescue operations through the NEMA team from the Lagos Territorial Office to team up with the state SEMA. NEMA has also facilitated the mobilisation of response involving heavy-duty equipment for rescue operations and security for crown control.

“We pray that through the rescue operatives still on the ground, at the site, many of those trapped will be rescued.”
