Gradual Easing of Lockdown Commences in Lagos State

The gradual easing of the Lockdown directive in Lagos State expected to commence today met with an unpreceded turn out of people and vehicles on the streets.

President Muhammadu Buhari had announced in last week nation-wide broadcast announced by the Federal and Lagos State Governments

The development prompted the state governor to caution residents about the dangers of being out when they could avoid it. 

He also used the occasion to reiterate the fact that as the gradual easing of lockdown is in place, only essential services should operate. This is with a view to reducing the dangers of an unprecedented surge in infections of #COVID19;

Governor Babajide Santo-Olu’s statement: 

“As the lockdown ease takes effect from today, I will be sharing with you, Lagos State’s decision on the rules guiding the re-opening of different sectors within the state.

“These decisions were made for our safety, and to also guard against running foul of the law.

On Schools and Academic Institutions-

“All schools at Primary, secondary, and tertiary levels remain physically closed

“Students are expected to continue learning on alternative online and media channels announced by the various institutions of learning.

Private school proprietors and parents/guadians are encouraged to enter into meaningful dialogues regarding the delivery of education through various online and digital channels and very importantly, the cost implication of same.

On Places of Worship –

All paces of worship (both formal and informal) re to remain closed from any form of congregational services or assemblage util further notice.”

In as much as people try to adhere to the social distancing measures, they are see to inadvertently do the wrong things. 

Watch this video footage of pedestrians, all grabbing at a pillar on a street corner. The same would apply to the railings of overhead bridges and commercial bus bus windows and seats.
