Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State have been named Nigeria’s most beloved sub-national leaders for 2024.
The ratings were given following a fresh leadership perception poll conducted by the Nigeria Social Media Week Group (NSG).

The findings were presented during the NSG’s first quarter roundtable session in Abuja, where the group unveiled the results of its independently administered survey spanning the country’s six geo-political zones.
Governor Makinde retained his position at the top of the admiration index, holding onto his title as Nigeria’s “Most Loved” and “Most Admired” Governor, while Governor Eno was named the “Most Inspiring” state executive in the nation.
The NSG, which operates as a digital governance-tracking and peer-review platform, stated that the rankings were drawn from online surveys targeting youth communities and digital civil society organizations.Nigerian political art prints
Explaining the methodology behind the survey, NSG’s Team Lead for 2025, Dr. Mark Audu, said it focused on several key areas, including leadership accessibility, performance, public engagement, national recognition, and long-term impact.
“Governor Makinde was rated as the most accessible, nationally admired, and resourceful governor,” said Audu. “He scored highest on initiatives like the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub and key infrastructure projects that have significantly boosted investment and economic activity in Oyo State.”
Many survey respondents highlighted his open-door governance style and consistent youth engagement as core factors behind his popularity.
Meanwhile, Governor Umo Eno drew widespread admiration for what respondents described as his calm and compassionate leadership, particularly following the recent loss of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.

The NSG report noted that Governor Eno received the highest marks for “resilience, emotional strength, and inspirational leadership.” His administration’s ARISE Agenda was also credited for delivering tangible results in youth mentorship, entrepreneurial support, education, and infrastructure development.
“Governor Eno’s ability to maintain stability, stay connected to the people, and inspire hope even during trying moments captured the hearts of many respondents nationwide,” Dr. Audu remarked.
